Changes in women's role in Spain.

Women's role in Spanish society has changed a lot during the XX and the XXI centuries. In the 1930s the Spanish Republic changed its constitution and made women legally equal to men. Women won the right to vote but they still didn’t have high positions in politics and at work. Women were still respected less than men.
When Franco came to power women lost all the rights they had won and during his government women had to obey their husbands and do everything they wanted.
After Franco's death women's progress was reactivated and they started to look for good jobs and for a higher qualification. Women started practising sports that traditionally were only for men.
Nowadays, women are more respected and they have got higher positions in society but there still are some traditional ideas about women and some male chauvinist attitudes against them.
In the actual government there are as many women as men and this is an important proof of women's progress.
But the main problem is that some women still believe that their only purpose in life is being an obedient wife and mother and they do not realize that they can be much more than that.
